  3. Good to know

DigitalOcean Spaces is S3 compatible object storage that lives alongside your Droplets. It is a natural home for uploads, assets and backups of sites that already run on DigitalOcean. Rocketeers connects to Spaces with an access key pair and takes care of the buckets.

What you get with DigitalOcean Spaces

  • Spaces buckets created and deleted from Rocketeers.
  • An S3 compatible endpoint, so any library or framework that speaks S3 works without changes.
  • Connection details ready to place in your application's environment.
  • Storage in the same regions as your Droplets.

How the integration works

In the DigitalOcean control panel, open Spaces Object Storage, go to Access Keys and create a key with access to all buckets. Add the access key and secret key to Rocketeers. Rocketeers then uses the S3 API at DigitalOcean's Spaces endpoint to list, create and remove buckets and hands each site the details it needs to store files.

Good to know

  • Spaces keys are separate from the DigitalOcean API token used for Droplets and DNS, which is why Spaces is its own provider in Rocketeers.
  • The secret key is only shown once in DigitalOcean, so copy it straight into Rocketeers.
  • DigitalOcean bills Spaces directly on your account. Rocketeers never resells storage.

DigitalOcean Spaces stays your account, on your bill. Rocketeers, the control panel for your own cloud, connects to it with your own credentials.
