What is a user agent?
---------------------

A **user agent** is a string of text your browser includes in the `User-Agent` header of every HTTP request. Servers read it to figure out what browser, version and operating system you're on, so they can serve the right markup, assets or downloads.

For historical reasons most user agents look like a jumble of browser names — nearly all of them still start with `Mozilla/5.0` even when they aren't Mozilla. That's why a clean breakdown like the one above is easier to read than the raw string.
